Sheltering Lies

We live below sheltering lies,
contrasts drawn across the air,
like knives drawn in the night,
it took us so long to really scare this time.

We live below sheltering lies,
as others’ lives burn to sunder,
feeding us their charred remains
of glory and hope and it’s tangled wonder.

We live below sheltering lies,
lying naked below the leaves,
with only passing psychotropes, they
keep us warm, these errant sees.

We live below sheltering lies,
with tinderstick rooves and forgiving flames,
to light the remnants or our house we
call demise.

We live below sheltering lies,
we glide through phosphene altitudes,
riding on her rising scars,
we scrape away space for food and faith.

We live below sheltering lies,
they keep us safe in our lives’ holds,
prayers come, prayers grow,
in this ever darkened truth we know

we know,
we know,
we know.
