about

Every town has its moment. When real estate moguls swoop in after the artists have had their moment and convert what was once ours into theirs...

lyrics

Medicated-on -Sea

At Medicated-on-Sea
we made the waves at last,
watching the Sun
as it spattered mercury pools over mackerel shoals.
The glare drove our eyes to the horizon,
the glare drove our eyes to the horizon
curving from pier to pier.

Still and lost,
we drew on its endless calm,
the harming’s numbing hush
the crushing that had brought us.
We came to this ocean’s drifting kiss
where it gripped us,
trying to forgive us,
trying to forgive us
at the edge of our sea land.

Meanwhile the winds had changed
the turbulence at our backs,
the stacked hacks jabbering across coffee shops that
the new city of Hackney-on-Sea,
the new city of Hackney-on-Sea
was now no doubt the place to be,
was now no doubt the place to be.

At Medicated-on Sea,
where the sun runs out slowly,
we left that water’s edge
to a thousand-starling helix
black brush stroking the last chilling burn
settling in the dusk air,
to the herring gulls hunting burger scraps,
the leaning dinghies soliciting jailbreaks,
while the mugging continued briskly
in the corridors of the town,
while the mugging continued briskly
in the corridors of the town.
